What Is Deep Tissue Massage?

Targets Deeper Layers | Muscle and connective tissue

Pressure: Firm to Deep, always adjusted to your comfort

Sessions: 90 min $240 | 120 min $320

Therapists: Rita Torok, LMT and PTA, and Addy Berra, LMT

Deep Tissue Massage uses slow, sustained pressure to reach the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It is a good choice for chronic tension and tightness that lighter work does not fully reach.

Depending on your needs, your session may include myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and focused work on areas of chronic tightness or adhesions after injury, combined with gentle stretching to improve flexibility.

A note on “deep”: “deep” refers to the layers of tissue being treated, not simply how hard the pressure is. Effective deep tissue work does not need to be painful, so we always work within your comfort level.

Every session also includes a gentle touch of Reiki energy work to support relaxation and overall well-being.

Who It Helps

What to Expect

Before your visit: new clients receive an intake form by email covering health history, injuries, surgeries, and goals. Please complete it before you arrive.

At the start: we review your intake form and talk about what is bringing you in, what you would like to focus on, and any areas to avoid.

During your session: pressure, techniques, and focus areas are adjusted to your comfort. You are professionally draped throughout, and you can talk or simply relax quietly. You set the tone.

Afterward: give yourself a little time, move gently, and continue your normal hydration. Mild, temporary tenderness can occur after focused therapeutic work.

Deep Tissue Massage FAQs

It should not. “Deep” refers to the layers of tissue being treated, not how hard the pressure is, and deeper pressure is not automatically better. Pressure is always adjusted to your comfort, so let us know at any point if you would like it lighter or firmer.

Deep Tissue Massage focuses on reaching deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue with slow, sustained pressure. Therapeutic/Medical Massage combines several techniques, which may include deep tissue work, to target pain, mobility, and recovery. If you are not sure which to choose, Therapeutic/Medical Massage is a great starting point.

Mild, temporary tenderness can sometimes occur after more focused work. Continue your normal hydration, move gently, and give your body a little time. If anything after your session concerns you or feels unusual, contact an appropriate healthcare provider.

Yes. If your needs have changed, we can usually adjust the approach between Therapeutic/Medical Massage, Harmony Integrated Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, and Swedish Massage without changing the length of your appointment.
